Friday update from camp

For the past three days we have done many things. On Wednesday, we rafted the Nantahala and it was pouring rain. The rest of the time we had our regular merit badge classes.
Last night was the golden spoon competition and the wilderness survival trip.
We plan on seeing everyone at St. Luke's on Saturday.

Thursday morning ASM update from camp

It's another cool morning up here at camp but nothing that a warm campfire can't overcome. The boys continue to be in good spirits and they're looking forward to tonight's troop cooking in camp (rather than the dining hall) and tomorrow's 'Golden Axe' patrol competition.
It's great to see the older scouts helping the younger scouts and the younger scouts are clearly excited about the new skills they have learned this week!
Yesterday's whitewater raft trip was cold and rainy but lots of fun! It even prompted a few of the boys to take a warm shower when we got back. (Posted by Assistant Scoutmaster (ASM) Tom Pratt)

SCOUTMASTER UPDATE::

Dear Parents and Friends,

We've just been having a delightful time in the cool North Carolina mountains. The evenings are 60's and the days are only in the 80's. This is a PERFECT summer retreat from the weather perspective. Mr. Childs and I have returned to Atlanta as planned and Mr. Levy (along with 7 well qualified ASMs) staying with the Scouts. The PLC under the steady leadership of SPL Jeffrey Heninger is doing MARVELOUS. The first years are enjoying the program, learning lots of new things and make HUGE gains in their advancement. The Guides and older scouts are offering guidance and leadership to the younger ones just as it should be. Everyone is studying hard and going to class and having fun.

A few adults spent Monday getting the CDB computer system fixed up (they were on useless satellite ) -- and now they are on dial up at 56K (we donated a modem and configured it). Now connectivity is much better for the Scoutmasters and they can keep you up to date better.

So, I have brought back pictures and uploaded them to the troop website. A slide show of these photos can be viewed by clicking the link below.

Please contact me with any questions or concerns, or if you want to get updates on any of your scouts. They are ALL having a great time bonding, fishing, swimming and learning lots of outdoor skills.

Sincerely,

Brian LaRose

Arrival at Camp Daniel Boone (Sunday)

Today we arrived around 1:30 and dropped our stuff off at our campsite. Afterward, we took a tour of CDB and took our swim test in freezing water. Then we had a meal of lasagna and bread and then we had a flag ceremony and evening vespers. - Michael D. (Scribe)
